The wonderful new Dior 2020 Cruise Collection once again makes a statement and celebrates all that is great about colour, motifs and prints. The renowned fashion brand is constantly raising the bar when it comes to relevance and presented its new collection in the magical setting of the El Badi Palace in Morocco's Marrakech.
The brainchild of Dior's Artistic Director for Women's Collections, Maria Grazia Chiuri, the beautiful creations have opened the dialogue on the wonderful continent of Africa and its fashion legacy of the past and future.
Traditional Moroccan fabrics and ceramics set the stage for the show and the venue was chosen with great care and as a homage to the first successor to Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent.
The new collection centres around Wax, an emblem of the entire continent of Africa and prints with a multitude of colour and motifs. One of the best-received elements has been new versions of the House-style iconic toile de jouy fabric.
Print is described as "the universal fashion language" and there's a very special tribute in the collection from African designer Pathe Ouedraogo known as PatheO who collaborated on a shirt designed specially as a tribute to Nelson Mandela.
LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton already owned Parfums Christian Dior before taking ownership in recent years of the brand's clothing, leather and shoe businesses in a 13.1 billion dollar deal. The future is bright for Dior.
