Coco Chanel is credited with the concept of the must-have "Little Black Dress," which has become an essential part of every woman's wardrobe over time, but what about a black wedding dress?

Today's brides stand at the crossroads of the ubiquitous white and the more flamboyant, avant-garde styles in bridal wear.

In recent years, a surge in colour has revolutionised the bridal palette. Soft pastels, bold hues, and black dresses are gracing the aisles, allowing brides to express themselves beyond traditional boundaries. They are increasingly gravitating toward gowns in shades of blue, red, and black, signalling a shift toward personalisation and self-expression. Designers such as Monique Lhuillier, Óscar de la Renta, Elie Saab and Vera Wang have started offering gowns in colours other than white.

Historically, wedding dresses were available in many colours, including gold, purple, red, blue, floral, pink, and black. A wedding dress's true value lay in the richness of the fabric, and no one, not even the Queen herself, ever dreamed of wearing that rich fabric only once. You would wear it again for special outings, conceivably with a few alterations to match the occasion.

The modern appeal of the black wedding dress reflects the concept of a versatile and timeless garment.
